Kaiju is the Japanese word for giant monsters. This can apply to anything from 200 ft. giants like Godzilla to a puny 20 ft. T-rex.

But that's not what a kaiju really is. Certain characteristics differ kaiju from run-of-the-mill monsters like the aforementioned T-rex. A true fan can distinguish these characteristics quite easily.

Kaiju is a word most commonly associated with Japanese giant monsters, but many can be found in other countries. Korea has quite a few kaiju, and America has King Kong, the Tristar Godzilla(Zilla), the Cloverfield Monster, and many creatures from '50s and '60s B movies.
